TO ALL SKIN CARE PROFESSIONALS:
If you're using or planning to use any of the alphahydroxy acids, (glycolic, lactic, etc)
trichloroacetic (TCA) acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol, pyruvic acid, phenol, (carbonic acid),

When skin is damaged, it produces a protein called "epidermal growth factor" to heal itself.
A peel does little more than force the skin to produce epidermal growth factor through
supposedly "controlled" damage of the stratum corneum. This, in turn, causes the generation
of new cells at a more rapid rate than is normally produced. Unfortunately, the idea of
"controlled damage" is seldom realized in practice. The individual's skin is left to heal itself
via pathways crowded with the chemistries of a scrambling immune response (it is the
immune system that struggles to reject the peel). These are the very pathways that normally
convey epidermal growth factor. The resultant chocking-off of the growth factors until the
immune reflex cycle is through is the most critical moment following any peel. It is at this
point that the severity of the skins reaction to peel is determined.

Whether you are a physician administering a profound chemical peel, or an aesthetician
doing a mild AHA or enzyme peel, there is a product that can take much of the guess work
